Welcome to the all-new Somerset Community Justice Partnership website.
SCJP was formed as a charity in 2011 to assume the responsibilities and build on the well-established foundation of the Ilminster and Chard Community Justice Panel that had been in existence since 2004.
Somerset Community Justice Partnership provides opportunities for community engagement in restorative justice panels whereby victims and perpetrators meet in a controlled environment facilitated by trained volunteers to resolve local social harms.
We provide a high-quality service that is independent, free, and impartial; it values equality and diversity in all its practices.
We actively promote the absolute independence of the Charity from any political, institutional or organisational influence. This is to reassure participants that the process is unbiased and fair to all.
We ensure local justice stays local. We have a county wide network of expertise and restorative justice facilitators. Our volunteers are familiar with the local problems that arise and are able to facilitate conferences towards outcomes that resolve harm.
Our volunteers describe seeing transformations in people’s behaviour towards each other during conferences as one of the most rewarding aspects of the role.
Somerset Community Justice Partnership is based in Yeovil, but works across the County.
We are a Registered Charity number 1142452
